- Disincentives
- -------------
- 1) Instigate some sort of car tax - maybe 5-10% !!
- 2) Increase petrol prices to the point where people actually consider that
- a journey costs a lot of dosh. I recommend about 10 pounds a gallon/2
- pounds per litre.
- 3) Disallow credit at petrol stations. Helps enforce point 2 above.
- 4) Charge for entry into cities by car. (Although this will just increase
- greensite malls.)
- 5) Freight by rail.
-
- Incentives
- ----------
- 1) Offer incentives for people to *not* use a car to go to work, ie 10p a
- mile if you walk/cycle/bus/train to work.
- 2) Change *all* dual carriageways into cities into 1 bus/cycle lane, plus
- one car lane. This would make cycling a little safer, and would keep
- more cyclists off the pavement. Also makes car commuting less pleasant.
- 3) Relocation to be automatically offered for new employees living more
- 10 miles away, on condition that they move within 10 miles, *and* use
- some alternative form of transport to the car.
- 4) Encourage car-sharing (a la USA car pool lanes on the highways for
- vehicles with 4 people in).
- 5) Promote motorcycles as an alternative form of motorised transport.
- Possibly no VAT, or similar reduction in cost.
-
- Me? Extreme? Never.
