- This raises an interesting point. My understanding is that in
- the past, UKnet has censored certain newsgroups because of fears
- over either illegality or tabloid publicity. Given that UKnet
- was at one time the only gateway of any significance into the UK,
- I could sympathise with their concerns to some extent. They would
- almost certainly be in the position of being considered the Chief
- Pornographer or Prime Mover or whatever. But now that UKnet is
- only one of the service providers, and might be just one of many
- players in the commercial IP business within a few years, surely
- it's time to rethink this policy? If others can now provide a full
- and uncensored feed into the UK, why can't they do it? If anything,
- by continuing to censor, they may potentially make things worse for
- the people providing a complete news service if there are problems.
