- I would comply with the request but add that unless you get payment
- within two weeks you will be issuing a County Court Summons for
- payment. You can do this without a solicitor if the amount is less
- than UKL 5,000. Its called a Small Claim, and was hashed over here a
- couple of weeks ago. Go to your COUNTY court (civil not criminal) and
- ask for details.
-
- The reason that insurance companies delay paying is that they get to
- pocket the interest in the meantime. If they delay paying UKL 5,000
- for 6 months then at 10%/annum they get another UKL 250. Meantime you
- have had to pay another UKL 750 for an unsecured loan at 25% to buy
- another car while you wait for them to settle.
-
- A small claim probably won't recover interest (there is a threshold
- above which you can claim it, but I think its rather high) but it does
- force them to pay NOW rather than later.
