  24. I would comply with the request but add that unless you get payment
  25. within two weeks you will be issuing a County Court Summons for
  26. payment.  You can do this without a solicitor if the amount is less
  27. than UKL 5,000.  Its called a Small Claim, and was hashed over here a
  28. couple of weeks ago.  Go to your COUNTY court (civil not criminal) and
  29. ask for details.

  31. The reason that insurance companies delay paying is that they get to
  32. pocket the interest in the meantime.  If they delay paying UKL 5,000
  33. for 6 months then at 10%/annum they get another UKL 250.  Meantime you
  34. have had to pay another UKL 750 for an unsecured loan at 25% to buy
  35. another car while you wait for them to settle.

  37. A small claim probably won't recover interest (there is a threshold
  38. above which you can claim it, but I think its rather high) but it does
  39. force them to pay NOW rather than later.
