- *13 CALIFORNIA'S CHILDREN'S AMENDMENT: S.F. PROVIDES FUNDS
- Forty community-based organizations that serve young people
- are the beneficiaries of $3.1M from the city of San Francisco
- (Ganahl, S.F. EXAMINER). The funds are tied to last year's
- Proposition J, the Children's Amendment, which "provides for the
- maintenance and expansion of services for children in four
- primary areas during a 10-year period," reports the paper.
- The primary areas are: child care, health and social
- services, job readiness, recreation, delinquency prevention and
- education, according to the EXAMINER.
- The grants include: an expansion of the S.F. Unified School
- District's Children Centers for latchkey children; $400,000 for
- health education and screening for low-income children; $470,000
- to increase access to jobs for at-risk youths; and a "special
- needs" fund to provide money to gay and lesbian youth (11/17).
