- I ordered a pizza recently from the well-known double-your-pizza
- place. After 45 minutes, and no pizza, I phoned up, and was told
- that they had somehow mucked up my phone number, and the whole order
- had disappeared into the computer system. Not to worry, my new pizza
- was being rushed to my door. I expected a free pizza, but the driver
- had no clue about this on his computerized slip, and rather than argue
- with him, I paid up (quite hungry by this time). Phoned back, and was
- told, not to worry, my credit for a free pizza next time was being put
- into the computer.
-
- Switch to yesterday, and I ordered another pizza. I ask to please check
- the computer for my credit. I am told that there is only a $3.00 credit
- on the computer, and that's it. Long conversation with customer service,
- who said that there was no other information about the circumstances of the
- credit, and no way to put it on anyways. Then there was a very long
- explanation of exactly what to do in order to get a free pizza the next
- time it was late (seemed almost impossible to me). I was also told that
- I should have got the name of the customer service rep who promised me
- a free pizza (not on their computer system!). Eventually managed to get
- the credit up to $6.00.
-
- So, consumer tip of the day is: the next time your pizza is 41 minutes
- late, phone back, and they'll try to catch the driver to tell him the
- pizza is free. If he shows up the next minute, tough luck. They will
- obviously try to charge the individual franchise for this, but if the
- late pizza is due to an error by the main booking system, you're in
- a different ball game. (At least try to get the name of the person
- making you the promises, but if their computer system cannot keep track
- of all this, their promises aren't worth much.) (Pizza still was
- very good).
