- ] But apparantly, reminding everyone of how rich/romantically successful/
- ] muscular/smart you are is a turn on.
- ]
- ] Someone said that they had a problem with keeping a minimum of $1500 in a
- ] bank account. You say, "gosh, why is that a problem? I have $15,000 in
- ] mine all the time." As in "you mean there are starving people in the
- ] streets? I don't think that's important because I just had this huge
- ] chocolate binge." Or, "If there isn't enough bread, then let them
- ] eat cake."
-
- Actually, I said that I personally prefer keeping separate accounts;
- someone (who, for other reasons had a personal preference for not having
- separate accounts) suggested that this would cost a small amount more
- than a single account and that I would have to decide whether to "save
- the marriage or save the money." My point was that, to me personally,
- the cost of an extra checking account or two is trivial compared to the
- value of a marriage. (Incidentally, I didn't say that I had $15,000 in
- my account all the time--in fact, I try to avoid having that much money
- sitting in a place where it is generating little or no income.)
-
- ] In other words, it was rude and insensitive.
-
- Hmmmm...sounds like you need to work on this insecurity thing--you
- really shouldn't let other people's mention of their personal
- preferences reduce your enjoyment of life so much. You seem to have a
- very strong negative reaction when anyone posts anything suggesting that
- they are happy in a relationship (in the past, you've responded with
- announcing a desire to kill or at least maim the "offending" parties)
- or, in this case, to a very simple response to someone pointing out what
- he though were problems with my personal preferences for financial
- arrangements within a marriage.
-
- Keep in mind that, contrary to what you've claimed above, I'm not rich.
- (At this point I'm still slowly working my way up to comfortable.) I'm
- certainly not romantically successful by any stretch of the imagination.
- (Remember me? I'm the one whose current--and not too infrequently
- stated--feeling in regard to romantic relationships is "I feel so much
- better now that I've given up all hope.")
-
- I don't tear into you whenever you mention your past marriage or your
- relationship with your ProblemYoungerMutant (since I've yet to get
- involved with anyone who doesn't flee the moment either of us gets
- emotionally attached to the other, I certainly have at least as much
- justification for doing so as you have for tearing into me for my
- occasionally being a little sloppy in managing my checking account).
-
- Ah, well; enough of playing armchair psychologist (especially when,
- technically speaking, I'm really just a therapist). Personally, though,
- I think you'd have a happier life if you didn't feel the need to get all
- bent out of shape every time you interpret what someone posts as
- implying that some small aspect of his or her life is slightly better
- than the corresponding aspect of yours.
