- 'Tis easy--stop worrying about it. The simple fact is that there are many
- different sorts of people out there--some prefer their humor to stand on its
- own and find that large, flashing signs saying "this is humor" detract from
- their enjoyment. Others don't understand the concept of humor without
- a clear label that something is supposed to be funny--such people get angry
- and frustrated when confronted with humor or sarcasm posted without a
- smiley or a joke told on TV without an accompanying laugh-track. Still
- others find even smileys and laugh-tracks to be insufficient and can only
- cope by watching _Mystery Science Theater 3000_....
-
- Trygve (Personally, I figure the thing to do is to use smileys only
- when you can't think of a way to phrase a humorous observation
- such that a well-meaning, intelligent reader would be sure to
- recognise it as humor without the smiley.)
