  12. Looks like your friend is going through a transition time.  There
  13. is his long distance love.  It's easy to love her.  He can't know
  14. her very well, so what he doesn't know he imagines.  It's easy to
  15. dream about such beloved one.  He must have a strong mental picture
  16. about her, and it's prpobably far from the real picture.

  18. Then there is you, someone he knows pretty well, someone he can
  19. trust.  He knows about your feelings but he's afraid of deeper
  20. commitment.  He is used to see you around, so (a wild guess) he
  21. doesn't really notice you.

  24. that he needs a "real" relationship.  Then he's ready to look around
  25. there.  I hope that he notices you.
