  30. I was refering to the interesting complex of reactions that tends to
  31. occur in persons not utterly devoid of imagination when someone who
  32. (rationally, by surface appearances, etc) have a prayer of inflicting
  33. serious harm attempts to do so.  People start wondering about
  34. poisoned fingernails, 9th dan black belts in obscure martial arts
  35. specializing in causing compound fractures, and so forth.  Tends
  36. to fluster people badly.

  39. ought not to need to make the threat in the first place, so they must
  40. be joking.
