- Well, at least in Chicago, this is what we've got: run by the
- Archdiocese of Chicago is something called the Young Adult Ministry
- office, which has a priest and a full-time lay person running it. They
- have a mailing list of over 17,000 names. Every year they run several
- events, the biggest being something called Theology on Tap. Speakers go
- to different parishes around the Archdiocese once a week for 4 weeks
- talking about various topics: how to make good decisions in the 90s, etc
- etc. Vast majority is not real deep religious stuff. Anyways it ends
- with a Mass at Holy Name Cathedral (the big one in Chicago) celebrated
- by the Cardinal. Then there's the party afterwards at the Cardinal's
- residence. Its pretty good. BTW: I met my last long term (3+ years) SO
- at ToT. The YAM office also sponsors many other events throughout
- the year, including one I attended this past Sunday. Was just a Mass and
- a short talk afterwards, but was very good. And you get to meet
- people.
-
- On top of this, there are many "singles" groups in the Archdiocese.
- These are like any singles group with a wide range of ages, but most of
- them (especially that say "young adult") are 20's and 30's.
-
- With the YAM stuff and the other things, a lot of them have been going
- for 10 or more years, so whats happening is the people that were in it
- when they were 25 are now 35, the 35 are 45. But there's always "fresh
- blood" coming in....
-
- There have been SEVERAL marriages that have come out of such
- activities... in fact, 2 of the last 3 weddings I've been at have been
- such a result....
