- Ahhhhh fresh hot maple syrup! I used to make maple syrup upstate NY
- with my grandfather. They would collect the buckets of raw sap and pour
- it into a big pot/pan over a wood fire. (wood! A replenishable energy
- source!) It takes about 7 gallons to make a gallon of 'A' grade
- (light amber) syrup. As this boils, it forms a froth. This, when skimmed
- off and poured on the clean snow makes the BEST maple sugar candy. So
- sweet it'll crack your teeth! YUM!
-
- Anyway... the whole point behind this monologue was that the cost of
- the energy stays the same, just the labor goes up. I guess that
- commercial concerns make the syrup a different way, but then it's
- not considered 'real' by our family! :)
