- " If the person was, as you said, articulate, well informed, etc then the
- amount of formal education wouldn't affect my decision to (or not to) date
- this person. There's a lot more to life than text-book knowledge "
-
- It is my impression that formal education broadens the mind (usually)
- as do personal attempts at learning. It's not really the text-book
- knowledge that people are after, but rather the broad-minded personality
- that is (usually) present as a result of it ... 8-) I *could* be wrong.
-
- " Having (or not having) a
- degree says nothing about who you are and what your potentials are. "
-
- You think so? I would think that someone who had a degree is more
- *likely* to possess a willingness to learn, experience new things,
- respond in more intelligent ways to things they know nothing about,
- etc.
-
- All I can say is that people I've gotten to know (friends or
- otherwise) who lacked education beyond high school, as *well* as
- lacked any personal ambition to learn, had limited vision, an
- unwillingness to try new things, an inability to see different
- viewpoints, etc.
-
- Now I prefer to be around people who have made
- some attempts at stretching themselves mentally (which usually,
- though *not* always, comes down to formal education). Keep in mind,
- there are exceptions, but I'm talking about in general.
-
- I'm not stuck on people getting degress, but I am stuck on people
- bettering themselves by experiencing new things and ideas, and learning
- about the world around them. 8-) The world is a better place
- when people are willing to listen to each other, rather than closing
- themselves off thinking that their way is the only way. There
- is not much to be said about narrow-mindedness, and formal education,
- as well as personal efforts at learning new things, usually
- poses as a reliable cure for such a condition. 8-) (And I'm
- speaking from personal experience here!)
-
- There is *SO MUCH* out there just *waiting* to be experienced and
- learned about -- who *wouldn't* want to get out there and live it?!!
- Life is *incredible*!
