- But Faludi is very careful to assemble a wide range of evidence, dating
- from a decade or two before the turn of the century until now to back
- up what she is saying. The most lurid example is that of the alleged
- "male shortage" which many people may remember.
-
- A wide range of evidence for what? That there are things she describes
- that seem anti-feminist. But by selecting her evidence carefully she
- finds that there is a lot of stuff that seems anti-feminist, some of
- which has been specifically refuted by the original authors, other parts
- in the press since then. She then concludes that a subconscious motive
- of suppressing women must be the cause.
-
- It might do you some good to read up on some of the feminist critques
- *of* Faludi. I think Camille Paglia has written one, and there were
- several others.

-
- No, neither Faludi nor anyone else I've heard of goes to that extreme.
- Did you have a particular instance in mind?
-
- Sure -- there's a discussion of "feminist logic" going on in sci.logic
- and sci.philosophy.meta. Underlying it is the idea that any attempt to
- use reasoning based in "men's logic" is inherently oppressive, *and*
- meant to oppress. Andrea Dworkin's "philosophical" work is often a good
- source.
