  27.    But Faludi is very careful to assemble a wide range of evidence, dating
  28.    from a decade or two before the turn of the century until now to back
  29.    up what she is saying.  The most lurid example is that of the alleged
  30.    "male shortage" which many people may remember.

  32. A wide range of evidence for what?  That there are things she describes
  33. that seem anti-feminist.  But by selecting her evidence carefully she
  34. finds that there is a lot of stuff that seems anti-feminist, some of
  35. which has been specifically refuted by the original authors, other parts
  36. in the press since then.  She then concludes that a subconscious motive
  37. of suppressing women must be the cause.

  39. It might do you some good to read up on some of the feminist critques
  40. *of* Faludi.  I think Camille Paglia has written one, and there were
  41. several others.

  46.    No, neither Faludi nor anyone else I've heard of goes to that extreme.

  49. Sure -- there's a discussion of "feminist logic" going on in sci.logic
  50. and sci.philosophy.meta.  Underlying it is the idea that any attempt to
  51. use reasoning based in "men's logic" is inherently oppressive, *and*
  52. meant to oppress.  Andrea Dworkin's "philosophical" work is often a good
  53. source.
