  3. I went in melvyl (University of California combined library catalogs) and
  4. searched for Diggings in the subject heading field, ie f su diggings.  The
  5. results were:

  7. Malakoff Diggins State Park (Calif.)
  8. Murphy's Diggings (Calif.)
  9. Coyote Diggings (Calif.)
  10. Secret Diggings (Calif.)
  11.  
  12. Hope one of these looks promising.  Also, the UW has several books on
  13. California Geographical Names.  I just searched for California and place
  14. names and found several titles.
