- When I first became interested in genealogy and documenting on a Macintosh
- I looked into several programs, most of which were advertised in the
- Software section of _MacWorld_. Sent away for more information etc.
- Since I was relatively new to genealogy I didn't really know what I was
- looking for, I decided to with the the Personal Ancestral File program
- available from the LDS Church. Although some of the features are specific
- to documentation of LDS events these features call all be "turned off."
-
- The number one factor in influencing my decision is that is was the least
- expensive at $35 and I was willing to try it out and get a feel for what
- expectations I had from a genealogical program. Four years later, I am
- still quite happy with it. The DOS version is much more powerful from all
- accounts I have heard but I am still satisfied with it. Since you are
- capable of exporting information in GEDCOM format if you changed programs
- later one that was able to import information from GEDCOM would save you
- from having to reenter data again.
