  10. I've just started lurking here because I've started my own research  
  11. project on my family tree.  I'm in luck because I already have 3 books  
  12. containing information about various branches of the tree.  But there is  
  13. so much to look into.  I would hope that there is a FAQ or two answering  
  14. the following types of questions:
  15. 1) How do you hook up with the information that the LDS has gathered (and  
  16. what have they gathered)?
  17. 2) is there an ftp site and what can be found there?
  18. 3) what are the standard formats for genealogical data?  I've read about  
  19. Tiny Tafels and GEDCOM in the group, but don't know anything about them.
  20. 4) what is the best software?  (I think I have a decent sense of that from  
  21. the recent postings)
