  29. Um, well.  There is a big difference in tax status between Greenpeace
  30. and Pat Robertson's church.  The latter is not just non-profit, it is
  31. TAX-EXEMPT, a status reserved for *non-political* organizations (but
  32. somehow churches tend to slip through the definition).  Any
  33. organization can be formed which is non-profit -- and which, hence,
  34. will not pay taxes -- even if it specifically lobbies for a particular
  35. bill or candidate.  But only a few organizations like Pat Robertson's
  36. have tax-exempt status such that the government reimburses citizens
  37. with tax-credit for donating to them.
