  13. Hi, everybody -- I'm baaaack!

  15. I am at the moment living in Dublin, Ireland, but will be moving (and
  16. abandoning this e-mail address) in about a month, and crossing the water
  17. to the Ewe-nightie Kingdom.  My quandary is that I still haven't decided
  18. *where* in the UK to locate.  Current candidates include:  [Oh, yes, I
  19. guess I should mention that I'll be there on a six-month student work visa,
  20. although I probably won't stay out the entire six months, more like four
  21. and a bit.  Qualities of interest include: nice housing at a reasonable
  22. price, job possibilities (most likely of the temporary clerical sort),
  23. weather, social climate, intellectual life, and the like.]

  25. London -- obvious advantages of lots of social, cultural, and economic
  26. activity, but also obvious disadvantages of crowding, crime, noise, and
  27. EXPENSE.
  28.  
  29. Brighton -- nice seaside town, reputed to have a large motss population,
  30. about an hour from London, but still a town of only about 150,000.  Still,
  31. the weather would be nice....

  33. Cambridge -- university town, ergo presumably reasonably high level of
  34. intellectual activity, still close to London, but also a fairly small town.
  35.  
  36. Edinburgh -- lively arts scene, but it's cold and a long way to anything
  37. else.
  38.  
  39. Manchester -- reputed to have a high concentration of motsseurs, reasonably
  40. medium-sized city, close to friends in the MANW area (Merseyside And
  41. Northern Wales, as in MANWEB).

  43. Of course, one of the questions I have no information on at all is the
  44. availability of public-access internet sites at reasonable cost -- just in
  45. case my next job doesn't come with e-mail on the side.
