  11. tonight, watching NBC Nightly News.  Tom Brokaw interviews Col. Harry
  12. Summers (Ret) on Clinton's stand to remove ban on gays in the military.
  13. Comments are paraphrased.

  15. Summers: It used to be OK in the old days when they were quiet.  Now in
  16.      these days of 'in your face' they want confrontation all the time.

  18. Brokaw:  Do you think that allowing gays in the military will lead to other
  19.      ethnic and racial groups to also demand a special place [!!] in the
  20.      military?  [note: these are very close to his exact words]

  22. Summers: [couldn't hear response for all the angry yelling at the TV].

  24. OK folks: telephone number for NBC is (212) 664-4444.  Let 'em have it.
  25. You may need to be a little persistant.  The first time I called I got
  26. a recording 'this number has been disconnected'.  The second time I got
  27. 'your call did not go through'.  I called the New York operator and 
  28. confirmed the number; the third time I finally got through.  They were
  29. evidently getting flooded with calls, which triggered the wierd recording.
  30. If they meant all circuits busy, why didn't they say all circuits busy...?
