  43. Personal boycotts are good for the soul.  I won't buy anything
  44. made in Mainland China.

  46. Targetted boycotts work. (well, sometimes they work.)

  48. Boycotting the entire state of Colorado is foolish.
  49. Not being a government, we can't pass laws  preventing people
  50. from trading at all in Colorado.  Not being anything but a
  51. small minority of the population, we can't count on just the
  52. withdrawral of our Gayperson support to make a difference.
  53. We have got to take this boycott to the mainstream in order
  54. for it to work.

  56. Clinton is now making good on his promise to end the ban on
  57. Gaypeople in the military.  This is either the best of times
  58. or the worst of times to run a boycott -- that I can't tell.

  60. If you want to run a boycott, do it right.

  62. Find out who supported OC-2.  This shouldn't be too hard -- they
  63. made flyers, no?  They needed funding, no?  Who funded it?
  64. Find out.

  66. Then target those specific businesses.

  68. Since we need to get the mainstream in on this, you must get
  69. pickets and march outside those businesses too, asking those
  70. who would have shopped there not to do so.   Remember that in
  71. many locales you have to either be part of a recognised union
  72. (ie -- you don't get to just call yourselves the Gay and
  73. Lesbian Colorado Union --- and the Student Union does not work)
  74. to picket unless you get a parade permit.

  76. Most towns give them out cheap.

  78. Otherwise you will get arrested and then get to defend the fact
  79. that you are only exercising your right of free speach.
  80. You will win that fight, but people who are busy fighting lawsuits
  81. cannot  march at the picket line.

  83. If you end up rounding up an articulate martyr, who badly wants
  84. to be arrested, then you can work your asses off to get media
  85. coverage for this event, and then wait for arresting for not
  86. having a parade permit.

  88. Be careful with those who want to be arrested at any cost, and
  89. those who want tv coverage at any cost.  If you get tv
  90. coverage, you must look like citizens exercising their rights
  91. and not a bunch of hoodlums in for a cheap thrill.
