  11. I remember a time not so long ago when Rod would post anything that
  12. he saw in the NY Times of obvious glb* interest.  It was a couple of
  13. articles a month at first-- no more than that.
  14.  
  15. Recently the pace has picked up.  Since the presidential campaign
  16. these topics have been hot in all the media.  The _Times_ at least
  17. is keeping up with things.  Today's paper had the following articles 
  18. (that I caught):

  20. + Front page (continued in Sports):  "AIDS Deaths Tear at
  21.   Figure-Skating World" (with explicit reference to John Curry who has
  22.   said that he was infected "during a homosexual relationship some
  23.   years ago."

  25. + first section, p. 17:  "Navy Fails in Attempt to Exclude Gay
  26.   Sailor"  (a continuation of the Keith Meinhold story, mentioning
  27.   that Judge Hatter has hinted that he doesn't like the military
  28.   ban
  29.  
  30. + Op-ed page, Russell Baker's column, "By Sex Obsessed," satirizing
  31.   the idea that glb* folk in the military would detract from
  32.   "preparedness" more than regular sick-drunks and hangovers might,
  33.   and comparing the supposed "lack of discipline" in open
  34.   homosexuality with standards of heterosexual license that
  35.   governed when Baker served during WWII.
  36.  
  37. + second (regional) section, p. 3:  "Teaching About Gay Life is Pressed
  38.   by Chancellor"  (NYC's "Children of the Rainbow" approach to
  39.   teaching about cultural diversity in the elementary schools, which
  40.   is being fought by a Queens district that has proposed its own
  41.   curriculum with all the homosexuality references eliminated.  I
  42.   found the headline most interesting, because the _Times_ could have
  43.   highlighted the refusal of the Queens Board, but didn't.)

  45. + second section, p. 9 "In 2 Cities, Unmarried Get Marriage Rights"
  46.   (re. Domestic Partnership implementations in Cambridge, MA and
  47.   in  Sacramento, CA)

  49. + Sports:  "At 36, Navratilova Still Has Fight" (Ok, ok, so I 
  50.   had to know to look for it, but still, the article includes
  51.   the following:  
  52.     "'The bottom line is that Madison Avenue is run by
  53.     white male yuppies,' said Navratilova, who feels her
  54.     forthrightness about her sexual preference long ago
  55.     scared the advertisers off.  
  56.     'But I'd rather have it like this than pretend to be
  57.     Miss Heterosexual America,' said the player who has
  58.     added her name and clout to the class action suit filed
  59.     by the American Civil Liberties Union in Colorado,
  60.     where an amendment removing antidiscrimination
  61.     legislation was passed two weeks ago."

  63. And last week I noticed that a 36 year old man who died of drowning was
  64. survived by his "companion" (among others).  It's the first time I've
  65. noticed that except in an obit where AIDS was explicit.

  67. As I said, I knew enough to check the Navratilova story for explicit
  68. glb*-interest content.  I wonder what I might have missed...
