  22. corresponded to the great nationalist era of pre-World War II.  Marshal
  23. Phibun wanted to build up national pride (often at the expense of various
  24. minorities) and quickly Westernize Thailand.  Keeping with this policy, he
  25. changed the name from Siam to a more western-based one, Thailand.
