  13.         Siguiendo con la busqueda de noticias sobre Mexico y su
  14. Gran Timonel en la prensa internacional, heles aqui la busqueda
  15. de este dia.
  16.         El Independent del 16 de nov, no tiene referencia alguna
  17. sobre Mexico salvo el resultado (en tipo de 6 puntos, se ve con
  18. lupa) de Mexico2, Honduras 0 en la seccion de resultados deportivos.
  19.         La revista TIME (23 de nov) no tiene referencia alguna
  20. sobre Mexico o sobre CSG.

  25.         Has press freedom really arrived in Mexico? Shortly before Manuel
  26. Bartlett Diaz was elected governor of Puebla state last week, Zachary
  27. Margulis, a reporter for an English language daily, The Mexico City
  28. News, tried to publish a story about Bartlett.  In it, Margulis cited a US
  29. Drug Enforcement Administration report stamped "secret" that linked
  30. Bartlett to the 1984 murder of a Mexican journalist who was investigating
  31. his alleged association with Mexican druglords.  But The News -run
  32. by Romulo O'Farrill, a close friend of Bartlett- killed the story and ordered
  33. Margulis not to write about Bartlett.  Other reporters at the paper say
  34. they received similar orders.
  35.         The clampdown wasn't limited to the News.  Other major Mexican
  36. news organizations failed to raise questions about Bartlett, which
  37. flies in the face of President Carlos Salinas de Gortari's calls to
  38. make Mexico's election coverage more fair and open.
  39.         According to the 1990 report, an informant said the
  40. journalist's murder "was carried out on the orders of Bartlett Diaz."
  41. Three months later another informant testified DEA agent Enrique
  42. Camarena was killed because he was "causing trouble" for Bartlett.
  43. At the time Bartlett was interior minister and oversaw the now
  44. defunct Federal Security Directorate.  According to the report,
  45. he was said to be "acting in consort with narcotics traffickers".
  46.         In response to Newsweek's inquiries, Bartlett referred to a 1990
  47. statement by the Mexico attorney general that characterizes the DEA
  48. informants' tesyimony as "irresponsible, false and libelous".
  49. Calls to O'Farrill were not returned.
