-
- How true! As an avid reader of Kim Yong-Oak's enlightening works, you
- should realize that one of his strongly emphasized philosophy is that
- of pleasures in cooking, Gag-lae. He frequently professes about what
- a good cook he is, especially in his heavily integrated philosophical
- books. This isn't surprising, since he is not only an expert in
- Chinese cooking, but also an epicurian of other fine international
- foods. One can immediately smell the fine aroma of steam dumplings
- even from the title of his highly regarded book:
-
- Eastern Philosophy, What Are We Going To Do?
- (Dong Yang Hahk, Uh Dduck Hae Hahl Gut In Gah)
-
- Don't get me wrong. He is a fine writer, and an unselfish
- philosopher in fact. No doubt about that! I do not know whether you
- have heard of this, but you should actually read his Declaration of
- Conscious (Yangshim Sun-Un) when he resigned from Korea University.
- There are lots of simple yet complex philosophies which are further
- elaborated in his later works.
-
- However, back to the original topic. A little birdy who had a
- dinner with the author along with few other students in Seoul once
- described to me that he rigorously encouraged them to read a certain
- book (she couldn't remember the title, but if anyone knows I'll
- forward it to her), a book about food by some famous philosopher. For
- Kim Yong-Oak's zeal for food, try looking up listings of food like the
- one found in the index of the book:
-
- What Is Women? (Yuh Jah Rhahn Moo Ut In Gah)
-
- Before I make my exit, I would like to present you with a famous
- Kim Yong-Oak line:
-
- "How can one talk about life or philosophy if one does not
- know the pleasure of food!"
-
-
- P.s. Oh, yeah, enough research will tend to support your theory,
- Gag-lae, so don't give up.
