  13. A very good article on the use of electricity on Shabbat was published a few
  14. years back in the Journal of Halakha and Contemporary Society.  The authors
  15. point out in a footnote that a few poskim in the late 19th century prohibited
  16. the use of electricity on Shabbat based on the notion that it is a form of 
  17. fire, and the authors state simply that these poskim apparently misunderstood 
  18. the physics involved.  More recent responsa on this issue reflect a better 
  19. understanding of what electricity is.
