- To those who say it was an absolute no;
-
- The accord was far to complex. In speaking to many other Canadians it
- would have been far easier for us to vote on each individual section.
-
- Most people I talk to agree on native rights. The main problem ius
- that every crying screaming group wanted to be represented in the
- constitution. It shows how much influence, either actual or imagined.
- these groups have in our governmental system.
-
- For example:
- The constitution guarantees certain rights to all people, so I
- have a right to no cruel or inhumane punishment, so does anybody in a
- wheel chair, an aboriginal, a woman, a black, a franco phone.
-
- The whole damn country needs to realize that rights are for
- everybody!!!
-
- If you don't believe that, take the time to read the U.S. bill
- of Rights. A quick examination of their constitution reveals that it
- is a set of guidelines for running the country, not a place for every
- special interest group. I love my country & we have done some
- marvelous things with it, form Thompson to Trudeau, Vimy to Vancouver.
- But maybe Clinton is right. Get rid of the Special Interest Groups.
-
- The Canadian constitution had to address the original, binational
- nature of Canada. It seems reasonable to me that it address basic
- aboriginal rights as well.
-
- Not that the generality of the US consitution does not guarantee
- non-discriminatory treatment of gays and women, while the Canadian
- Charter of Rights does.
