- Bills of Attainder:
- I looked up 'attainder' and got 'convict, remove civil rights from'. The
- Constitution (section 9 para 3) says "No bill of attainder or ex post facto
- law shall be passed". Section 10 para 1 places the same restriction on the
- States. A later section prohibits "attainder of blood" in cases of treason.
-
- A Bill of Attainder, at the time the Constitution was drafted, was something
- aimed at depriving named people of property, freedom etc. The Constitution
- outlawed this, along with "attaider of blood", or punishing the sons for the
- sins of the fathers in cases of treason.
-
- Lately, Senator Pantsoff of Massachusetts was accused of pushing a BofA when
- he caused a regulation to be passed forcing a certain Dirty Digger to divest
- himself of some media holdings in order to buy into other areas of media.
- Whether, as I have often suspected, this was just a part of a long-running
- feud between the Digger and the Pantsoff's, is a question I will leave open.
