- This isn't exactly what you want, but as an undergrad I did a study on
- reading comprehension and music. Subjects read a fairly technical page
- explaining the physics of boomerang flight while exposed to either
- classical music (Mozart), heavy rock (AC/DC), or silence. Subjects were then
- tested in silence. Both music groups answered significantly more questions
- incorretly than the silence group. Although the trend was for the AC/DC
- to be worse than the Mozart group, there was no significant difference between
- these groups. These results suggest that any music will negatively affect
- reading comprehension. I don't know if you can generalize these results to
- other cognitive tasks such as Vigilance.
- Hope this is helpful. If you want the write-up, e-mail me and I'll begin the
- quest for the paper. I can't guarantee that I'll find it though.
