  18. Potemkin was a "Pre-Dreadnought" Battleship.  As such it was a major
  19. unit of the Black Sea Fleet during Tsarist times.  The Tsarist (and
  20. other minor) navies did not have a lot of Dreadnought (ie all-big-gun)
  21. Battleships in WWI, so the older ships retained much of their
  22. importance.

  24. In the major navies there were also large numbers of ships of similar
  25. classes, however they tended to be relegated to secondary duties,
  26. leaving the battle line to the dreadnoughts.
