  38. Comments:  The 'Yankee' was the Soviet Navy's first series-produced SSBN type, 
  39.     and the original 34 boats were built at the Severodvinsk 402 and 
  40.     Komsomolsk yards between 1963 and 1972.  The 'Yankee' class has 
  41.     engineering compartments 30% longer than those of the contemporary 
  42.     Lafayette class in US Navy service, indicating a bulkier (less 
  43.     efficient) power plant.  This class is being reduced in number as the 
  44.     newer 'Delta III', 'Delta IV', and 'Typhoon' classes enter service.
