- In November 1942 there were 2 night naval actions to days apart.
- The First was between 2 Kongo class battleships and a cruiser force with the
- San Fan and other cruisers. The result was the San Fan badly shot up and other
- ships sunk from the US side and 1 Kongo disabled to be sunk the next day by air.

- Washington. The result was the Kongo was sunk and the South Dakota was damaged.
