  13. G'day all math netters,

  15. Would really appreciate on any information regarding the strengths
  16. and weaknesses of two very popular symbolic math packages - Maple
  17. and Mathematica. I'm not too sure which to go for but as far as the
  18. brochures are concerned , both seems to be pretty impressive.

  20. Basically :

  22. I'm looking for something which provides an extensive repertoire (sp?)
  23. of well known functions and algos. Ie, comes with numerous math packages
  24. for linear algebra, matrix manipulation and inversion , complex number,
  25. non-linear as well as linear optimizations - you know - stuffs like that
  26.  
  27. Basically - I'm sick and tired of programming in Fortran with NAG . Also
  28. running out of cash to upkeep NAG annually. Would like a math package that 
  29. have functions equivalent or similar to NAG routines so that I can chuck 
  30. Fortran and Nag away. I can use both UNIX and DOS based Windows 3.1 
  31. environments.

  33. Is there anyone out there whose used both and can answer my queries ?
