  28. Marc here, once again inserting his keyboard in his mouth...  I know that
  29. there has been some concern about overgrazing in the African Sahel leading
  30. to desertification (and an ever-expanding Sahara).  The chain goes something
  31. like this:  Goats eat the vegetation, leads to less water holding capacity at
  32. the surface (and a higher albedo), meaning less water in the system, meaning
  33. less rain.  The higher albedo increases reflectance (duh), possibly reducing
  34. chances of getting decent surface heating for convection, again decreasing
  35. rainfall.  I haven't heard this theory applied to the Amazon, and my
  36. familiarity with Eastern Africa rainfall patterns is also suspect, so I'll
  37. defer that to a real climatologist.
