- Thanks for the corrections/information/whatever.Over the weekend
- I had a look at some stuff on nuclear testing by the French.Between 1966
- and 1974 they conducted 44 atmospheric tests in the Pacific,39 at
- Muroroa and 5 somewhere else. Some of these were attended at (and delayed)
- by Greenpeace. At least 2 people asked about that.
- Saying that what GP did was comparable to a war is to take my
- point a little facetiously,I think. There are times when your conscience
- may dictate that you break a law which is unjust:this happens all over
- the world, and in some circumstances this involves putting yourselves in
- danger. Only in extreme circumstances,of course, would this justify
- endangering someone else, and no-one has quoted any source (that I've
- seen, anyway) which shows that GP were doing this.Does anyone have a
- detailed account of what happened? If GP purposely rammed the freighter
- or placed it in a position where it couldn't evade, then this was
- obviously wrong.I personally doubt that this is what happened. From my
- following of events in this sphere,The most likely thing would be that
- the freighter was for some reason not *willing* to give way. This kind of
- thing has happened before, for instance when GP were harassing a British
- vessel dumping drums of low-level (I think) waste at sea.The presence of
- an inflatable didn't stop the drums being dumped before, beside,
- immediately behind or,in one case,on top of it.From their size,the drums
- must have weighed several tonnes. This is on film, incidentally.
- So,does anyone have a detailed report? I haven't seen one,so as
- far as I know this whole "debate" could just be speculation.
- Thanks again,
-
- G.
