- FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PRELIMINARY REGISTRATION
-
-
- The International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE)
- and the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) will, in
- collaboration with the Danish Society for Biomedical Engineering,
- organize a Working Conference for invited participants on biosignal
- interpretation. The main topics are the integration between systems
- for biosignal analysis and decision support methods. The application
- areas include patient monitoring and physiological function
- assessment, applied during surgery, intensive and coronary care and
- chronic care. This includes interpretation of e.g. ECG, EEG, flow and
- pressure signals and their integration with other patient data.
- Besides applications, the Working Conference will stress the
- development of non-linear processing methods and models, and the
- integration of systems in departmental network environments.

- Organizing Institution:
-
- Aalborg University
- Institute for Electronic Systems
- Dept. of Medical Informatics and Image Analysis
- Fredrik Bajersvej 7D

-
- Scientific Program Committee:
-
- Jan H. van Bemmel, Chairman (Rotterdam, NL)
- Niilo Saranummi (Tampere, SF)
- Annelise Rosenfalck (Aalborg, DK)
- Richard I. Kitney (London, UK)
- Christoph Zywietz (Hanover, FRG)
- Shunsuke Sato (Tokyo, J)

- Venue of Working Conference:
-
- The Working Conference on Biosignal Interpretation will be held at the
- Conference Center "Rebild Bakker", situated in the heart of one of
- Denmark's most beautiful sceneries. Rebild Bakker has a large,
- well-equipped auditorium and many conference rooms for poster sessions
- and exhibitions. In and around the center there are excellent
- facilities for informal discussions and recreation. There is an
- indoor swimmingpool, outdoor tennis courts and bicycles will be
- available. The center is situated 35 km south of Aalborg in the
- immediate vicinity of the Danish National Park "Rebild" and of the
- Forest of Rold which is the largest in Denmark. The heather hills in
- "Rebild" were bought in 1912 by Danish Americans and donated to the
- Danish state. Every year, several thousands celebrate the 4th of July
- in Rebild.
-
-
- Date: August 25-27, 1993
-
-
-
- Integration: Integration of biosignal processing with decision-support
- systems or departmental information systems; emerging standards;
- network protocols.
-
- Interfacing: Human-computer interfaces for biosignal interpretation;
- windowing systems; ergonomic aspects.
-
- Intelligent Systems: Knowledge bases for biosignal interpretation;
- rule-based systems and expert systems; neural networks; causal models.
-
- Evaluation: Documented biosignal libraries; evaluation protocols;
- cost/benefit studies;
-
- technology assessment.
-
- Modelling: Statistical models for biosignal interpretation; non-linear
- processing.
-
- Real-time Systems and Data Acquisition: On-line assessment of the
- state of a patient; intelligent transducers and instrumentation;
- closed-loop systems.
-
- Clinical Applications, including: Patient monitoring (peri-operative,
- critical care, perinatal, acute care), monitoring of chronically ill
- patients, physiological function assessment, ECG,
-
- EMG, EEG, lung function, auditory, cardiology, internal medicine,
- obstetrics, perinatal medicine, surgery, anaesthesia, neurophysiology,
- and neurology. Participation:
-
- Besides a number of invited speakers, the Scientific Program Committee
- will invite interested participants on the basis of proposals for
- contributions. For that reason, people interested in the subject of
- Biosignal Interpretation are kindly asked to submit a notification of
- interest in participation before October 31, 1992. Instructions to
- authors will then be forwarded. A paper of maximum 2,500 words (i.e.
- about 10 pages A4, including References, Figures and Tables) should be
- submitted before January 15, 1993. The Scientific Program
-
- Committee will then review the papers and decide on acceptance. Only
- authors who submit a full paper are invited to the Conference.
-
- Participation fees:
-
- The participation fee for the Working Conference will be 4,900 DKK.
- This includes registration fee, conference facilities, hotel and all
- meals. Authors whose full papers have reached the Scientific Program
- Committee before December 31, 1992, will receive a discount of 500 DKK
- (100 DKK is about 16 USD). All participants will receive a copy of the
- journal and the Proceedings, free of charge at the Conference.
-
-
- Between 30-40 papers will be selected by the Scientific Program
- Committee for oral presentation at the Working Conference. The
- intention is to publish these papers in an internationally recognized
- journal. Another 50-80 papers will be selected for publication in the
- Conference Proceedings and for poster sessions at the Conference.
-
- Important deadlines are as follows:
-
- 1. Notification of interest in participation: December 31, 1992.
- 2. Submission of papers (Max. 10 pages, 2,500 words): January 15, 1993.
- 3. Acceptance of papers: March 15, 1993.
- 4. Return of revised papers to editors: April 15, 1993.
- 5. Submission of printed proof of papers to authors: June 15, 1993.
- 6. Working Conference: August 25-27, 1993.
-
- If you wish to participate, please fill in the enclosed form for
- preliminary registrations.
