- And both have their place. I think the German experiment is worthwhile.
- I don't think abandoning the grid willy nilly is sound policy, but as
- Eric notes, this is a *demonstration* project. It shows what's currently
- possible. And more to the point, it demonstrates what is, and what isn't,
- economically sound. Leaving the grid isn't economically sound with the
- technology demonstrated in the home, but the super insulation and Trombe
- wall construction does make it *possible*. Those features of the home
- can be utilized *without* leaving the grid. There have been a number of
- experimental solar houses constructed around the world. Most have highlighted
- unforeseen difficulties with super insulation construction. It will be
- interesting to follow the operation of this home to see if the problems
- of humidity buildup, and toxic build up in the interior air have been
- solved.
