- This is true and in fact you lose vertical resolution when going with
- letterboxing. However, you've already lost a huge amount going to video,
- period. The difference in resolution between letterbox and pan & scan is
- trivial in that light. On the other hand, the 100% resolution lost in the
- cropped areas (as much as 50% of the picture) of p&s releases is just that,
- 100%. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a film only p&s and then saw
- the letterboxed version and said "wow" to myself. In spite of the claim by
- another person that letterboxing makes little difference for most films, I've
- found that the exact opposite is true -- a big difference for most films.
- Anyway, let's not get into another one of these arguments....
