- Regarding using S-VHS in EP mode. One problem that exists in EP mode
- is portability of the tape to other players. This is definately the
- case with plain old VHS. My S-VHS deck (as well as LD player, VHS vcr,
- and AV Receiver) were stolen last summer. I got a new S-VHS deck made
- by a different manufacturer and a Panasonic VHS deck which has Quasi
- S-VHS playback.
-
- I was pleasently surprised to find absolutely no problems in playing
- S-VHS tapes recorded in EP mode on either the S-VHS deck or the Panasonic
- VHS deck using Quasis S-VHS playback. On the other hand, some plain old
- VHS tapes recorded in EP mode do not properly track on either deck.
- I suspect the higher grade and bandwidth of the S-VHS tapes make
- portability of the EP mode less of a problem than with VHS tape -- but
- your mileage may vary of course.
-
- Still, for anything I really want to keep I use SP mode both for
- long term storage and portability issues. However at this point I
- have seen no long term storage problems with S-VHS in EP mode, but
- I have only had S-VHS gear for a few years.
