- Just a minor supplement.
-
- Almost all consumer VCRs currently sold in Czechoslovakia, Hungary,
- and Poland are PAL machines. They are only able to convert from a
- Secam broadcast to a PAL recording (only some can also convert from a
- PAL recording to Secam on replay so a Secam only TV - a rarity - can
- play it in colour). They cannot play or record Secam tapes other than
- black-and-white.
-
- Those countries are rapidly moving towards PAL broadcasting (e.g.
- Poland will broadcast exclusively in PAL by the end of 1992).
- Funny thing is that many do not notice that, because TVs sold over
- there were PAL/Secam capable (at least, some also had NTSC decoders).
-
- So please check with the intended recipient whether s/he owns a modern
- PAL(/Secam) VCR or an old Secam only model (a tiny possiblity) or maybe
- her/his VCR is capable of NTSC replay on a PAL TV or both TV and VCR are
- NTSC capable (you will just send a VHS copy in the last two cases).
- When there is a choice between PAL and Secam, PAL is preferable.

- P.S. Romania was always a PAL country. I have no information on
- Bulgaria and former republics of Soviet Union, I can only suspect
- that they have too many urgent needs of other type.
