- I did have a TR101 for a short time that I returned due to exactly the problems
- you described. My various musings have turned up the following possibilities:
- + The playback facility of the TR101 does not measure up to Hi8 VCR standards.
- That is, when played back on a good Hi8 deck, most problems did not recur.
- + The metal evaporative tape is prone to dropouts. Rumor has it that this
- formulation is defective in Sony's case and you should switch to Fuji's double
- coated, metal particle tape.
- + The TR101 itself was defective. Since I couldn't tell for sure, I wasn't
- going to pay $1500 or so to find out.
- + All Hi8 camers exhibit this feature. It may be inherent in the technology as
- you question. If this is the case, then $1500 is a big ripoff.
