-
- Answering my own question, I'm pretty sure now that the laser disc player was
- moved while a disc was playing. This presumably caused the laser tracker (or
- whatever) to bounce up and contact the disc. Obviously it is desirable that
- this be impossible, but maybe it is difficult to accomplish in practice for
- some reason.
-
- So, don't do that!
-
- But given such extreme damage, what can one expect from the player? The CDV600
- is extremely uncooperative when faced with such a disc. It first locks,
- repeating the scene over and over. It won't fast forward past the scene.
- Since the disc is CAV, addressing to a specific frame is possible, and that
- does usually skip over the bad spot. Sometimes, though, it can't find the
- frame; when this happens, it always ejects the disc.
-
- That is one of the most aggravating things about this unit. If it can't do
- what you ask, it ejects the disc, rather than just stopping somewhere with an
- error condition. With the extra time to spin down, eject, reload, and spin up
- again, it can be extremely frustrating trying to work around a disc problem.
-
- Is this typical of other models/manufacturers? This is my first laser disc
- player.
