- From what I am aware, the agent does not need the ticket back to
- "correct".
-
- First, a little more. Sometimes travel agents deal with
- "consolidators" who are basically people who buy large blocks of space
- from airlines on selected flights. They usually bargain for a good
- price, so they can still sell the space to an agent at a low price and
- make a profit while the agent can sell the ticket to you and still make
- a good profit. I don't want to get in to a whole discussion, especially
- when it concerns trips to India because the practices of consolidators
- when it comes to tickets to India is legendary - in fact, let's just say
- that people pay much more than they should because they control the
- price and who can get space. Enough said.
-
- So, to continue ... what happens is that some travel agents actually
- tell you that you have a confirmed reservation, but, that is not always
- the case. Always check reservations - to anywhere - with the Airline.
- You are certainly allowed to do this. The agents have to notify the
- airline of the Ticket number, though the procedure for a consolidator
- may be different because they have already paid for the space. [Please,
- this is only a general description, so don't nit-pick unless you have
- something major to correct.]
-
- Next, it is possible for people to make mistakes, so give them a
- break, but they can re-issue a ticket without the old ones. It is
- standard practice to ask for the old ones back because tickets have to
- be accounted for, and this is just a way to help avoid fraud. However,
- they can, of course, just send you a new (correct) ticket. Since you
- paid by credit card (also a smart move), you can refuse payment, but, if
- I were you, I would find a (more) reputable agent and get another
- reservation or have them take over the reservation from the first agent
- and ticket you.
-
- That's part of the deal. Please, also remember, if you always go for
- the lowest price, saving $10 could cost you a lot more in problems.
- ALWAYS go to a reputable agent, and DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
