- : Seconded. It would make a lot more sense to go to Norwich instead: it has
- : a similarly well-preserved town centre, a castle more accessible than
- : Edinburgh's (most of which is off limits because of the army, leaving only
- : St Margaret's Chapel as worth the bother), and one of the best mediaeval
- : cathedrals in the UK. It's about 90 minutes from London by train or bus.
- : Save Scotland for when you have more time.

- This is true, Scotland is so beautiful, it almost a waste to go for 1.5
- days. If you must go however, hit the Royal Mile, take a cheesy tour and
- go to the castle. Take the night train from London. This leaves Euston
- station at approx. 12.00 and as a student you can get cheaper fare. Come
- prepared with 2 photo booth pictures, and ask the window attendant for a
- youth rail pass. this costs 16 pounds (24 dollars at 1.5 ex. rt.) and
- will get you a 1/3 off the train fare. Also if you have bought a weeks
- tube pass for zones 1 & 2, this will also get you a discount. So fare
- should end up being about 44 pounds (66$). I would go with the night
- train, sleep on the train, (save one night's accomodation fee), go
- into Edinburgh, hit the tourist centre for directions to the Youth Hostel,
- check-in, and leave your bags there. There are 2 good hostels in town.
- One is right in town, good for proximity, and the other is a little bit
- outside, behind the castle, (about 10 minutes walk). This one is a
- converted church (stained glass windows) has a new kitchen, and is about
- 10 pounds (15$) a night. The coach may give you free breakfast, but is
- probably not that great of food, and also the coaches are a bit more
- cramped than the trains.
