- In response to the query about safety in Madrid at nite, I was
- there in Jan. 1990. Streets around Gran Via are packed with
- people from 9 PM on. I would advise you to be careful with
- strangers who wish to befriend you. I met a Portuguese fellow,
- went to a few bars for vino and tapas, and next thing I knew, my
- credit cards and cash were missing.

- It does help to speak Spanish as well.
