  12. In response to the query about safety in Madrid at nite, I was
  13. there in Jan. 1990.  Streets around Gran Via are packed with
  14. people from 9 PM on.  I would advise you to be careful with
  15. strangers who wish to befriend you.  I met a Portuguese fellow,
  16. went to a few bars for vino and tapas, and next thing I knew, my
  17. credit cards and cash were missing.

  19. Have fun, but keep your wits about you particularly at night.
  20. It does help to speak Spanish as well.
