  13. Writing that report yesterday got me thinking more
  14. about Cuba and my upcoming return there. Just a few
  15. more notes that may be helpful.

  17. Tipping the people on the resort was not recommended
  18. since it is illegal for Cubans to have American dollars
  19. personally. Once they get enough US$ they can finally
  20. get out of the country. We tipped but very discretely.
  21. They like American or Canadian cigarettes, which we
  22. can buy there but they cannot, so you can also give
  23. them that. Soap is very scarce for the locals so
  24. this makes a nice gift. Ladies like lipstick and pantyhose.
  25. A few people we met said underwear was something they
  26. needed so when I go back I will bring some extra to
  27. leave behind.

  29. When travelling on our own we were without any restrictions.
  30. The only thing we were advised against was taking
  31. pictures of the military. For some reason this upset 
  32. them. :-) Taking pictures of museums was also forbidden.

  34. They did have a museum near the resort. It was basically
  35. a shrine to the 600+ men that died when the Americans
  36. tried to land there and reclaim the island after having
  37. been thrown out. Everything was in Spanish so we didn't
  38. understand much except "CIA" and that they don't like
  39. the U.S. a lot. They are quite proud of the fact that
  40. a few hundred poorly armed men stopped and invasion
  41. of one of the most powerful military forces in the
  42. world. It's enough for a celebration every year on that
  43. day.
