- This was the game of the two masters of service.
- It wasn't too exciting, but one could admire a great vartiety of different
- services - at least more than I ever saw.
-
- PS caught a good start, BB too with very good services, PS with slight
- forehand-faults, but dangerous backhand-returns (better than usual).
-
- They played with quite heavy balls, but still reaching speeds up to 194 km/h
- (PS) and 185 km/h (BB).
-
- When it was 5:5 in the first set, BB had some difficulties in returning PS's
- 2nd service (173 km/h).
-
- In the first tiebreak BB suddenly served with lower quality, even double-
- faulted and lost 5:7.
-
- The 2nd set brought along longer points, BB with slight unsurances but still
- very dangerous when he was successful with his 1st service.
-
- (1:2) PS serving, BB leading with 0:30 after a strange decision by a line-
- judge, but then PS aced away.
-
- (2:2) PS had his first breakpoint, BB now with less power but more control
- in his 1st service, playing carefully with few net-attacks.
-
- (4:4) BB with improving service-quality, but very stupid volley-faults.
-
- (4:5) Two world-class-points for BB, PS double-faulted ==> 1st setpoint for
- BB, PS playing on with a bad 1st service but a very cool backhand and we
- see the first famous Becker-roll. PS wins his game, pooh!
-
- (5:6) Becker feels disturbed by his fans aah-ing and ooh-ing at every of his
- strokes and starts cursing.
-
- In the tiebreak we had a double-fault by BB, a very peculiar net-roller,
- a critical decision against BB, another df by BB, hence 3:6 and 3 matchpoints
- for PS who uses the first with an ace, if I'm not mistaken.
