  13. NO SWIMMING THE BOSPHORUS FOR COACH PIONTEK

  15.     LONDON, Nov 17, Reuter - Coach Sepp Piontek says Turkey
  16. are no longer Europe's whipping boys and believes they can
  17. upset England in their World Cup soccer qualifier on
  18. Wednesday.
  19.     "We are not a team you just beat anymore. You have to
  20. play well to win now. The days when it was just a question
  21. of how many we lose by are finished," said the former Danish
  22. coach.
  23.     When Piontek brought Turkey to England 13 months ago for
  24. a European championship qualifier he promised to swim the
  25. Bosphorus if they won.
  26.     They lost 1-0 and this time he's making no similar rash
  27. promises.
  28.     "I said I'd swim the Bosphorus because it was
  29. unrealistic that we would win. Now it would not be
  30. sensational," he said.
  31.     "My greatest wish after two and a half years in Turkey
  32. is that we can get our first goal and first point against
  33. England. We have had two very good games against England.
  34.     "They had difficulty winning last time and the day when
  35. we score and win is coming closer and closer," said Piontek
  36. whose Danish team were the last to win a competitive
  37. international at Wembley in 1983.
  38.     Riza Calimbay the Turkish captain said: "Piontek has
  39. made us play more as a team, given us confidence and boosted
  40. our morale and shown us we can measure up to the rest of
  41. Europe."
  42.     Piontek was delaying naming his team until Wednesday.
