- The chances are good. The chances are even better that fans will go to the
- record stores and buy Slam Jam 1, hoping to see some great matches. The
- chances are about the same that fans will buy the Slam Jam (formerly Royal
- Rumble) PPV, hoping to hear Van Hammer's song for the umpteenth millionth time.
-
- And yes, it is ENTIRELY out of the question that this is a collaborative effort
- by WWF and WCW. Though all three federation heads (booking/owner McMahon,
- owner Turner, and booker Watts) HAVE to realise that their federations are
- losing money this year, they also have to realise that reuniting the two
- federations would be probably the worst thing they could do. Throughout the
- mid and late 80's, the only thing that kept NWA and WCW running was the same
- thing that pushed Vince to come up with the characters from hell... and that
- was the competition. This won't change. With no competition but the regional
- promotions, the federations will probably mellow a bit, yes, but you'll also
- probably see a lot more salary floors for wrestlers. With no competition, the
- big league, which would probably be the WWF, would be able to offer more money
- for one match to the scab of the week, or at the very least the midcarders, than
- a regional promotion can offer to one of its headliners. With terms like that,
- who would want to jump ship? And with no one jumping ship, workrate would drop
- like a stone. It's called job security... look into it, as David Spade would
- say.
-
- Reuniting WWF and WCW is probably the worst thing they could do... and as long
- as Turner, Watts, and McMahon all realise that, the competition to sell the
- biggest gimmick will continue to grow.
-
- This is all IMHO, but none of it has a smilie attached to it.
