- From what I know/remember, the criteria are:
- 1)If a extra player leaves the bench to stop a breakaway.
- 2) In the last 2 minute of regulation or any time in OT: a player
- intentionally shoots the puck out of the rink, freezes play
- intentionally, removes a net from its moorings as to stop a goal, or
- goaltender removes helmet/facemask.
- 3) The one about the breakaway: player in possession of the puck
- (control!) in his attacking zone with no one except the goaltender to
- pass, is interfered with from behind = penalty shot. (note- the player
- is not awarded a penalty shot if he/she gets a shot on net.)
- 4) Any defending player except the goaltender covers the puck in the
- goal crease.
- 5) If the goaltender 'throws' his/her stick to prevent a goal at any
- time. (it's a judgement call to whether the tender throws his stick,
- usually)
