- Gotta correct you on that one. Off-breaks and leg-breaks are different for rh
- and lh bowlers:
-
- For a RH bowler, the 'normal' action (wrist turning clockwise on delivery)
- produces an off-break.
- For a LH bowler, the 'normal' action (wrist turning anti-clockwise on delivery)
- also produces an off-break. (LH off-breaks move in the opposite direction to RH
- off-breaks).
- For a RH bowler, a reverse motion of the wrist (anti-clockwise) produces a leg-
- break.
- For a LH bowler, a reverse motion of the wrist (clockwise) also produces a leg-
- break.
- In other words a LH leg-break bowler moves the ball in the same direction as a RH
- off-break bowler and a LH off-break bowler moves the ball in the same direction
- as a RH leg-break bowler.
- A googly is a RH bowler delivering an off-break with a leg-break action. I.e the
- ball appears to have been imparted an anti-clockwise spin but in fact it is the
- opposite.
- A Chinaman is the LH version of this which is again an off-break with a leg
- break action.
-
- Therefore, for a RH batsman, a chinaman will appear by the bowlers action to move
- into the batsman (assuming for the time being the bowler is bowling around the
- wicket) but will in fact move away.
